World Vision is working to address global food insecurity through emergency measures and longer-term development solutions.
Relief
In disaster situations, World Vision is on the ground delivering emergency food for children and families. Whether it’s the drought in the Horn of Africa or the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake, World Vision provides food aid to millions of people worldwide (while at the same time avoiding the use of food resources that would discourage local agricultural production).
Development
World Vision supports local agricultural programs and food production by providing things like livestock, appropriate seeds, farming equipment and training. We also support micro-enterprise initiatives that help families earn a decent living wage, diversify their sources of income and reduce their vulnerability to external food supply shocks like drought.
Advocacy
Addressing local, national and international policies is key to tackling the root causes of poverty. World Vision and our supporters use their collective voice to call on governments to expand their safety nets and social protection programs. In Canada we continue to call on the government to increase its aid commitments to the World Food Programme.
