Recruiting Members

Recruit a few key people who share your passion for social justice and who can help form the beginnings of a leadership team. You might want to do this by:

  • Having a table at your school’s club fair or in the cafeteria at lunch (be sure to get permission to do this first)
  • Asking your friends to join you (you could create a Facebook Event to invite your friends to the meetings)
  • Putting up posters in high-traffic areas of your school
  • Writing an article for your school newspaper
  • Promoting your club on the school radio station or TV broadcast if it has them
  • Inviting students to join your club during morning announcements
  • Inviting students out to a specific event or fundraiser and get them to join the Club there (many people find it helpful to show the kind of activities they’ll be involved with before making a commitment!)
  • Hosting an open house where students can drop by and ask questions

Remember that although recruiting members may seem like work, it is crucial to have support in order to get things done! It doesn’t need to be difficult either; sometimes recruitment can be as simple as word of mouth.
